I was hooked on George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series from about the first chapter of A Game of Thrones. I started reading that book when the first series of the HBO adaptation was out. This was in a golden era when it mattered what was on the page, and they adapted the books fairly faithfully. I got less interested as time went on, but only ever more interested in the books. Either way, with the final season coming out soon, more than a few folks are going to have Westeros in mind as a game setting.

There are a number of roleplaying systems designed to be run in the Westeros setting, of course. Green Ronin have their own version which is very popular, and there was one that dated back before the HBO series was even commissioned. Although you can’t get the Guardians of Order version easily any more, the Green Ronin version is worth a look.

If you don’t fancy splashing out on a full system, I present a conversion for Dungeons and Dragons. It’s as much a challenge for me as a workable system and as such I have not playtested any of it. I might even go so far as to say that this conversion would work in 13th Age, with a little further adjustment. If this proves popular I might write up a full conversion guide on PDF, since I like a bit of tinkering with RPG systems.
